About Barbara

The woman seeking inner wisdom
Reconnecting with 'The Work' of Byron Katie during one of Melbourne's many lockdowns has given me a tool to question my stressful thoughts and reconnect with joy.

Doing this work has given me the courage to close my home based massage business, convert my Getz to a mini minivan and take all my skills on the road.

As a digital nomad, I will continue to offer my 4 week course, Intro to One Belief at a Time.

So you can learn the technique

Be supported while you try it out.
And stay supported as you discover a few of the nuances.

Plus I can support you to do 'The Work' with 1:1 Deep Dive Sessions.

The business coach
Picture
I’m a business strategy coach for women Kickstarting a Home Based Massage (or Bowen) Biz.  I help you get regular new clients and dependable income.  Grow a sustainable and profitable home based business where your life priorities are front and centre.

Learn to promote yourself proudly within your community as a professional therapist, without feeling salesy or icky, or like you’re always trying to sell yourself.

Learn to market efficiently, without losing authenticity, so you can spend more time doing what you love, not tied to your computer.

I speak to way too many women every week, who despite being AMAZING at delivering their services, are struggling to get enough clients through the door, struggling to make ends meet and crumbling under the pressure of running a business.

You’re an expert at your modality - you have some serious skills on the table but that doesn’t necessarily equate to business skills.

The certainly didn’t for me when I first launched my home based biz in 1999!

BUT, I knew this was what I wanted to do more than anything else, so I learned everything I could… and I’ve kept learning!  20 years in and I am grateful my marketing attracts regular new clients and nurtures my loyal returning clients.  Every day I am grateful to be working with clients who really value me and my skills as a therapist with a home based business.

A business that I love, a business that I am doing right now, a business that helps other people, a business that has given me time and resources to support myself and my 2 sons without worrying about where the next paycheque was coming from. A business that is sustainable because my life priorities are front and centre.

And through this journey, I learned there were a few key factors to ensuring you were successful - or ensuring you would never be.

These came from not only my experience, but also from teaching at the best schools in Melbourne, being an ambassador for a peak industry association, and helping train hundreds of people within the industry.

I knew there were essential gaps that had to be filled in order to ensure amazingly deserving therapists could really thrive in their home-based businesses. And so I became an expert at distilling down essential marketing info into really manageable bite sized chunks to deliver that and keep you out of overwhelm and into real results, fast!

I work with 1:1 with women from around the world,  creating a home based biz that is sustainable and profitably because it fits your unique life.

Biz Tips for Home Based Therapists

My Education & Qualifications

Diploma Remedial Massage (2013 and 2016 upgrade)
Southern School of Natural Therapies (SSNT) in Fitzroy VIC
Although I have been practising as a massage therapist for more than 12 years, I enjoyed bringing my formal qualifications up to meet industry standards.

Certificate IV Training and Assessment (2008 and 2011 and 2015 upgrade)
Northern Melbourne Institute of Tafe (NMIT) in Preston VIC
This qualification allows me to teach massage - which I've done regularly at many leading schools in Melbourne including Melbourne Polytechnic (formerly NMIT) , MTI (Max Therapy Institute)  and SSNT (Southern School of Natural Therapies)

Graduate Diploma in Education - Science and Health (2007)
University of Melbourne
This qualification allowed me to teach high school, a career path I started to venture down when I was uncertain if staying within the massage/Bowen industry could sustain me (I lasted 18 months before realising my purpose is to serve adults as an educator and therapist)

Practitioners Certificate of Massage Therapies (2000)

Malvern School of Massage & Kinesiology (renamed Copeland College)

Practitioners Certificate of Bowen Therapy (2000)
ISBT (International School of Bowen Therapy)

BSc. Human Movement (1992)
Simon Fraser University (SFU) in British Columbia, Canada
Between 1988-1992 I studied at SFU in Canada majoring in Kinesiology (Human Movement), giving me a solid background in nutrition, biomechanics, ergonomics, anatomy and physiology.

In 1999, while I studying at the Malvern School of Massage & Kinesiology I became aware of the Australian modality called Bowen Therapy. I had the privilege of training directly with Lisa Black and Col Murray, the founding directors of ISBT.
After completing both qualifications in 2000, I started my clinical practice.
